How I went from research scientist to internet entrepreneur ...
It all started in the summer of 2011. This is me at my first day working at NASA.

Yep, the NASA... the same people who landed a man on the moon in 1969, and the same people who today are planning a manned mission to mars.

But what most people don't realize about NASA is they not only do they explore space (the final frontier), but they also have an entire center that studies the Earth... pretty cool, huh?

Anyway, that's why I was at NASA ...

I was going to study the Earth.

From space.

With satellites.

Crazy, right?

Now you may be wondering why I would drive (yes, I drove) all the way across the country from California to Maryland for a job, but my reasoning was simple ...

NASA is freaking awesome!

Yes, it was hard work, but tackling creative and real-world problems was invigorating for me ...
But it still wasn't enough...
Even at the ripe old age of 23, I was unfulfilled by working for someone else and always knew deep down that I was destined for bigger things ...

As a creative type, I must always have an outlet for my creativity, and working for someone else generally doesn’t allow for that!

Those characteristics don’t work well in corporate America either, and I certainly had no desire to wear a suit and tie every day, to work 40 hours a week in a monotonous job … 

And build someone else’s dream ...

I was never cut out for that life.

Shortly after leaving NASA, I was noticing stories of these online millionaires who were making it big with internet marketing. With every story I read, it made me believe more and more it could happen for me ...

That’s when I decided I’d start my own online business, and I was certain the internet was the way to do it...

After reading books like Tim Ferriss’ 4-Hour Work Week, I knew this was the path I wanted to take ...

Not because I didn’t want to put in the hours, but because I was drawn to the freedom and mobility that comes with entrepreneurship and having an online empire.

Over the next two years I devoured everything I could on Digital Marketing ...

I read books, listened to podcasts, watched webinars, read blog posts—basically anything and everything I could get my hands on ...

Absorbing the information like a sponge, watching the masters and following their lead.
Throwing things against the wall to see what sticks...
Up until this point I had invested thousands of dollars into multiple businesses that didn't work out for one reason or another . ..

A game design company ...

A company that connected mentors to those who needed mentoring ...

A B2B software company that I even took a trip to Germany to do market research for ...

(Hey, at least I had a good time!)

And at one point, I even had a business that rented out board games ...
Needless to say, in the years since starting this adventure, I learned something ...

I loved starting businesses and working on new ideas, but I didn't always have the money to start a new business and take the risk ...

But I knew I was good at digital marketing (even though I didn't originally set out to be LOL), so I thought why not start helping other businesses and entrepreneurs as a service.

It was so simple. So that's what I did …
And that's how my Digital Marketing Agency was born ...
By this point, two things were certain ...

I was good at strategic analysis (remember, I was a scientist), and I was pretty good at digital marketing.

I had digested tons of different material from books I had read, training I had attended, and from my own experience building my businesses ...

I knew if I could do it for myself, I could get results for other people's businesses as well, so I did.

It wasn't too long before I was really making an impact in people's lives and businesses.

It felt great!

But like any good entrepreneur, I thought that I must be able to profit from this knowledge and skill set even more ...
Then I discovered the "sales funnel" ...
When most people hear the word "funnel" they think of baking or changing the oil in their car ...

While that is understandable, it's not at all what I'm referring to.

In the world of digital marketing, a sales funnel is the best salesperson in the world ...

  •  Can Be In A Million Places At Once
  •  And Doesn't Demand A Paycheck!
It let's you grow your business WITHOUT investors, loans, or massive credit card debt ...

There's a lot to a funnel, but in a nutshell it attracts your ideal customers, finds the buyers, and guides them through your most relevant products and services.

This is just like how a real-life salesperson would do it ...

And THAT is the key.

Now, I use sales funnels in all my and my clients' businesses, and I believe you should too.
